About the publication
The Belfast Herald
Independent regional reporting for communities across Northern Ireland.
The Belfast Herald is an independent digital regional publication reporting across Northern Ireland. Coverage is organised around public-interest news, politics, courts, business, health, culture, lifestyle and sport.
Our purpose
We aim to report clearly, accurately and without allegiance to any political party or constitutional position. News reporting is kept distinct from comment; significant claims are attributed; and material errors are corrected openly.
The retrospective archive
The archive reaches back to January 2020 through a searchable record compiled from contemporaneous reporting and public reference material. Historical dates describe when an event occurred or was reported. They do not claim that a retrospective archive entry was published by this title on that date.
Each archive record identifies its principal sources. Five hundred concise archive briefs are available without payment; the wider headline-and-source index is being prepared as the Premium archive.
Bylines and accountability
Named editorial bylines are professional pseudonyms used to identify desk responsibility; they are not presented as the writers' legal identities. Routine material may be attributed to Belfast Herald Newsdesk, Belfast Herald Sport or Belfast Herald Staff Reporter. The Editor holds overall responsibility for editorial standards and complaints.
Ownership and publisher
The Belfast Herald is independently owned and published by its proprietor. The proprietor's legal name and geographic service address will be added before any paid subscription is opened. No company status is claimed.
Regulatory status
The Belfast Herald is not currently a member of IPSO or IMPRESS and does not claim their endorsement. Editorial complaints are handled directly under the published complaints procedure.
