Publication terms
Terms of Use and Subscription
Terms governing access to the website, archive and Premium service.
Effective date: 9 August 2026.
Publisher
This service is supplied by the proprietor trading as The Belfast Herald. Paid subscriptions cannot be activated until the proprietor's legal name and geographic service address appear here.
Editorial material
Reporting is provided for general information and is not legal, medical, financial or other professional advice. Source links lead to third-party services whose availability and content are outside our control.
Archive dates
Dates on retrospective archive records identify the underlying event or source reporting date. They do not represent a claim that the retrospective entry itself was originally published by this title on that date.
Permitted use
Readers may link to public pages and quote limited extracts with attribution. Automated extraction, republication of substantial parts of the service, credential sharing and attempts to bypass access controls are prohibited except where the law permits otherwise.
Accounts
Subscriber access uses a one-time link sent to the account email. You are responsible for protecting access to that mailbox and must tell us promptly if an account may have been compromised. Accounts are for one person and may be suspended for fraud, abuse or a serious breach of these terms.
Plans, payment and renewal
Premium costs £4.99 per month or £49.00 per year. Each plan renews automatically at the same interval until cancelled. The amount and renewal frequency are displayed again at Stripe checkout before an order is placed. Stripe processes payment and issues payment records. We may change future prices only after giving advance notice; a reader may cancel before the new price applies.
Starting the digital service
Premium access begins after successful payment. Before checkout, the reader is asked to request immediate access to the digital service and acknowledge that the statutory cancellation right may be lost once supply begins. This does not affect rights where the service is faulty, misdescribed or not supplied with reasonable care.
Cancellation
A subscriber can cancel online at any time from the subscriber account. Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current paid period and access continues until then. Unless law requires otherwise, part-used billing periods are not refunded. We may issue a refund or credit where service failure or fairness requires it.
Service availability and liability
We work to keep the service available and secure but cannot promise uninterrupted access. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or a consumer's statutory rights. Subject to that, we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was formed.
Changes and law
Material changes to subscriber terms will be communicated in advance. These terms are governed by Northern Irish law; consumers retain any mandatory right to bring proceedings in the part of the United Kingdom where they live.
