A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Afghanistan on 3 April 2026, affecting Kabul and eastern provinces including Panjshir, Logar, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Nuristan. The tremor resulted in 12 confirmed deaths and four injuries, according to deputy government spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat.

The earthquake's epicenter was located 35 km south of Jurm district in northern Badakhshan province at a depth of 186.4 km. It was initially recorded at 36.55 degrees north latitude and 70.85 degrees east longitude.

The quake damaged 38 residential houses and impacted a total of 40 families across the affected regions. Strong tremors were felt in Kabul and surrounding provinces, with the Hindu Kush region known for frequent seismic activity.
