Angola, Namibia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have agreed to accept foreign offenders and illegal migrants from the UK. The UK government had previously threatened visa penalties for poor cooperation on returns.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that illegal migrants and dangerous criminals would now be removed to these countries. The government cited obstructive practices in processing returns as a key reason for the threat.
The UK government expects over 3,000 people from the three countries to be eligible for deportation. The move follows a rise in Channel crossings and a broader review of return policies.
