An Assembly Committee has issued a strong statement condemning the persistent nature of misogyny, intimidation and abuse aimed at women serving in elected office.
The warning came from members of the Committee for the Executive Office following their latest meeting on Wednesday 7 October.
Paula Bradshaw MLA, who chairs the committee, emphasised the necessity of publicly addressing attacks on MPs, MLAs and other public figures.
Such conduct was described by the chairperson as disgraceful in its impact on democratic participation.
The group agreed that this behaviour is unacceptable and must be challenged wherever it occurs.
Bradshaw highlighted how these actions can discourage women from engaging in public life and undermine broader democratic debate.
Tackling harmful attitudes towards women was noted as requiring action across all sectors of society, including politics.
Further information regarding the matter is available through Felicity Templeton at the Assembly communications office.
