At least nine people were killed and 35 others injured in a passenger bus crash in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, on 22 February 2026. The incident occurred in the Sabzak region along a highway connecting Qala-e-Naw, the provincial capital, to Herat province. The bus overturned due to reckless driving, according to local police.
Nine passengers, including women and children, died at the scene. Several of the injured were reported to be in critical condition, with the possibility that the death toll may rise. The injured were transported to nearby health facilities by police and local residents.
Road accidents remain a leading cause of death in Afghanistan, often linked to reckless driving, congested roads, and inadequate signage on deteriorating highways.
