Botanic Gardens will host two days of flowers, music and family entertainment when Belfast's Autumn Fair returns to the city next month.

The free event will run from 12.30pm to 5.30pm on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, combining the annual Autumn Flower Show with live performances, food stalls, arts and crafts and activities across the south Belfast park.

Among the centrepieces will be displays of prize-winning blooms, floral art and giant vegetables. The Northern Ireland Bonsai Society will mark its 40th anniversary with an exhibition, practical demonstrations and advice for visitors interested in growing and caring for the miniature trees.

Music across the weekend will include performances by The Professionals and The Drifters, while local traders and makers will bring a mix of food, produce and craft stalls to the gardens.

This year's fair coincides with European Heritage Open Days. Free ticketed tours will explore the history and plant collections of Botanic Gardens and its glasshouses, accompanied by music from Belfast harpist Ursula Burns. Watercolour workshops are also planned at the Tropical Ravine and Palm House.

A Sustainable Living Emporium will offer cookery demonstrations, willow workshops, planting activities and practical advice. The programme is intended to give visitors ideas they can take home as well as a day out in one of Belfast's best-known public spaces.

Both days are free to attend. Full programme and access information is available from Belfast City Council's Autumn Fair event page.
