The business, currently known as Convergix Automation Solutions, has been operating out of the town since 2014 following a sale and rebranding in 2022.
The entity was originally established as AGR Automation in Arbroath, eastern Scotland, before expanding its presence to Northern Ireland with an initial workforce of 22 employees supported by Invest NI.
At the time of the acquisition, the Scottish-based company employed 130 individuals across three locations, including the Ballymena site situated at Galgorm Industrial Estate.
Reports indicate that restructuring efforts began in late 2025 when the American owner started reducing staff numbers in Arbroath, affecting up to 30 positions.
This reduction has now extended to Northern Ireland, leading to the closure of the engineering hub previously described as a growth area for the business.
The site at Galgorm Industrial Estate is currently listed for sale.
Convergix Automation Solutions designs and manufactures automated systems primarily for high-volume assembly in sectors such as medical devices, personal care products, and industrial electro-mechanical equipment.
