The Chancellor is set to announce a reduction in import duties on marmalade and similar goods during the upcoming Budget session.
According to official statements, eliminating these tariffs alongside existing exemptions introduced last June could result in annual savings of up to £21 for families.
Marmalade currently faces a 20% duty rate plus an additional charge of £19 per 100kg on imports, which is scheduled to be suspended.
Beyond food items, the administration confirmed plans to make permanent a tax-free mileage allowance of 55p per mile for employees travelling up to 10,000 miles annually.
This permanent rate represents an increase from the previous 25p threshold, with rates above that distance set to rise to 35p per mile.
Further adjustments include allowing carers to earn beyond current earnings limits without losing their full allowance, substituting the existing cap with a tapering system instead.
Reports indicate wages for this specific age bracket are projected to increase by 3.9%, moving from £10.85 to approximately £11.27 per hour when the Chancellor delivers the announcement.
However, even following this reported rise, the proposed rate would remain under the National Living Wage applicable to workers over 21, currently standing at £12.71 an hour.
This figure stands in contrast to the 26% increase in the National Minimum Wage enacted by the Labour government upon its return to power in 2024.
Media sources suggest the Chancellor may also freeze fuel duty rates during the Budget proceedings.
There is a concurrent report that the pace of pay rises for younger workers on the minimum wage could be slowed as part of these fiscal measures.
A 5p discount on fuel duty, first introduced in 2022 and originally due to expire after one year, has been extended indefinitely since then.
The government aims to address what it describes as a cliff-edge effect for recipients of carer's allowance payments through these new structural changes.
While specific outcomes regarding the speed of wage growth remain unconfirmed, the core proposal focuses on cost relief and tax adjustments.
The announcement is expected to be made during the scheduled Budget presentation this week.
