Clashes between protesters opposed to President Yoweri Museveni and police left at least seven people dead in Butambala, Uganda. The incident occurred after the presidential election, which reported Museveni leading with 74% of the vote.
The internet blackout, imposed on Tuesday, delayed news of the violence until Friday. Security forces had previously restricted access to opposition leader Bobi Wine's home in Kampala.
Wine's party reported that a helicopter had landed at his residence and he was taken to an unknown location. The electoral commission stated that vote counting continued via a private system despite the blackout.
