Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has confirmed a financial injection of £750,000 designed to assist music groups and individuals in acquiring quality equipment.

The initiative forms part of The Musical Instruments Programme, which is managed by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Applications for the scheme are currently being accepted from a wide range of organisations including choirs, orchestras and community music societies.

Educational institutions such as primary and post-primary schools are also eligible to apply under the Professional and Non-Professional Performing Groups category.

Youth groups and musical societies have been included in the eligibility criteria alongside established bands.

A separate track within the programme is available for individual professional musicians seeking support.

Organisations that submit proposals will receive a decision regarding their funding request by Monday 14 December.
