Carlos Arguelles Leblanch, proprietor of the Cuban Sandwich Factory, reported that payment processing for his Belfast takeaway was halted following new United States sanctions imposed on Cuba.
The American government introduced fresh restrictions in May and widened them further in August, citing national security concerns regarding the Caribbean nation.
Arguelles Leblanch stated that automated banking systems incorrectly categorised his enterprise as subject to these measures, resulting in withheld transactions.
He explained that orders placed through the Deliveroo platform initially route funds through Citibank before reaching the business account.
When he noticed payments failing to arrive in recent weeks, he contacted his representative at the delivery service.
Deliveroo confirmed it was not an administrative error on its side and directed inquiries regarding the transaction block to Citibank.
The company added that staff were working closely with both Arguelles Leblanch and the American bank to resolve the matter.
Arguelles Leblanch maintains his sandwich shop has been inadvertently caught up in the international dispute despite operating independently from Cuba.
