Elfyn Evans remains the leading driver in the World Rally Championship following the conclusion of Rally Chile, though his margin over rivals has been reduced by mechanical issues during the final two rounds.
The Welshman was running second to co-driver Oliver Solberg for most of the three-day event held in Concepcion before a puncture forced him to stop for a wheel change on the penultimate stage.
That incident cost Evans more than two minutes of time, preventing him from widening his gap to nearest competitor Sami Pajari as originally planned.
Team-mate Josh McErlean also faced mechanical trouble in Chile, finishing seventh after suffering a puncture, while Jon Armstrong was forced to retire after hitting a bank and rolling his Puma Rally1 car.
All four drivers representing Toyota Gazoo Racing—Evans, Pajari, Solberg and Ogier—are on the same manufacturer's team, meaning the weekend's results secured a record-equalling tenth title for the company in the manufacturers' championship.
Evans has held the top position in the driver standings since April's Rally Islas Canarias, aiming to become only the third British winner following Colin McRae and Richard Burns.
Ten months ago he entered the inaugural Saudi event with a three-point lead but was overtaken by Ogier who claimed a record-equalling ninth world title.
The championship is now set to be decided in November's season-ending finale in Saudi Arabia, mirroring the situation from last year.
