Four individuals who had entered the UK by boat from France were returned to France in recent days. The Home Office described the repatriations as part of the programme's critical first steps.

The agreement, which began last month, allows France to send vetted asylum-seekers to the UK. The UK government intends to expand the number of returns under the pilot scheme.
