John Garrett O'Sullivan was sentenced to three years in prison for unlawfully preventing the burial of his father's body. The offence occurred between 1 and 18 July 2024, during which time the body remained in a family home.
The body of 86-year-old Noel O'Sullivan was found wrapped in a duvet and plastic sheets in a freezer. His head had been placed inside a refrigerator, and his hands were wrapped in a nappy and wet wipe.
John O'Sullivan admitted to placing his father's body in a fridge after death, citing hospital procedures as justification. He had not informed police or medical services of the death, nor had he sought help after his father died.
