European nations assessed that Alexei Navalny died in prison after being poisoned with epibatidine. The toxin is found in South American poison dart frogs and not naturally present in Russia.
The British foreign ministry confirmed the joint assessment in a statement citing analyses of samples from Navalny. It noted that no natural explanation exists for the presence of the toxin in his system.
Navalnaya, the opposition leader’s widow, said she had arranged for lab tests abroad to confirm suspicions of poisoning. She did not provide details about the testing process or the countries involved.
