Germany were crowned UEFA Women's Under-17 European champions after a 1-0 victory over France at Windsor Park, bringing the Northern Ireland finals to a tight and absorbing conclusion. Marie Kleemann supplied the decisive moment in the 29th minute, reacting first after France goalkeeper Clelia Ducreux had kept out an initial effort.
France had made the brighter opening and asked early questions of the German defence. Elise Dhalluin tested goalkeeper Mirja Kropp, while Mehisane Zidi found promising positions without converting. Germany gradually settled, carried a greater threat through Victoria Saring and then made their strongest spell count before the interval.
The goal followed pressure in the French area. Ducreux produced a sharp stop from Clara Choisy, but the loose ball fell for Kleemann and the forward finished before France could reset. It was the first goal France had conceded in the tournament and gave Germany a lead they defended with discipline.
France responded immediately. Mayra Bento forced Kropp into a low save and the German defence blocked the follow-up, before Rachael Adedini also drew a stop as half-time approached. Those interventions preserved Germany's advantage through a period when France moved the ball with urgency around the edge of the area.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with France committing players forward and Germany protecting the central spaces. Emma Motyka and the French attack continued to probe, but clear openings were scarce. At the other end, Germany retained enough counter-attacking danger to prevent the pressure from becoming completely one-sided.
Sabine Loderer's side had already shown its resilience in a semi-final shootout against Spain. That defensive organisation was decisive again in Belfast, with Laura Ernst and Muriel Durr among those helping Kropp keep another clean sheet during the knockout phase.
Germany had late opportunities to make the result more secure, including an Ernst header and a Johanna Putzer attempt in added time, but one goal proved sufficient. The final was watched by 1,230 spectators at the National Football Stadium.
The victory gave Germany a ninth title in the competition. France finished as runners-up after winning Group B and overcoming Norway on penalties in the semi-final, while Northern Ireland ended the tournament with the distinction of being the only side to defeat the eventual champions.
