Hamas handed over the 20 remaining living Israeli hostages to the Red Cross as part of the ceasefire agreement. The transfer followed the release of 1,900 Palestinian detainees by Israel.
The released detainees included 250 individuals serving life sentences for convictions in attacks on Israelis. Over 1,700 others had been detained during the war and held without charge.
Large crowds welcomed the freed prisoners in Beitunia and Khan Younis. They displayed victory signs and expressed gratitude upon returning to Gaza and the West Bank.
