The Stormont Executive has approved pay parity for doctors, nurses and auxiliary staff in Northern Ireland. The move aligns their pay with colleagues in other parts of the UK.

The Department of Health will overspend its budget by £100m to cover pay-related pressures. The Department of Finance confirmed any shortfall would be deducted from the 2026-27 health budget.

Unison welcomed the funding route but called for further talks to clarify details. The union said the health minister must now act swiftly to conclude the pay agreement.
