Health Minister Robbie Butler officially unveiled two new frameworks designed to modernise nursing and midwifery practice during this year's Chief Nursing Officer Conference.

The Mental Health Nursing Model: Partnering for Wellbeing and Enabling Recovery outlines a strategic vision for how mental health nurses will operate within the evolving structure of the Health Service Commissioning Board.

A separate Nursing and Midwifery Leadership Toolkit has been created to assist practitioners managing operational teams with practical guidance and resources.

These tools aim to build confidence among staff while ensuring they are prepared to deliver safe, high-quality care that prioritises individual needs.

The proposals emphasise a shift towards services delivered in local communities rather than large hospital settings.

Minister Butler stated the work supports broader reforms across health and social care delivery throughout Northern Ireland.

The frameworks also acknowledge existing professional strengths while identifying specific areas requiring improvement to meet growing population demands.

Particular attention is being paid to enhancing access and outcomes for individuals with learning disabilities.
