Chelsea have completed the signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a British record transfer fee of £117 million. The deal was finalised within 48 hours of England's World Cup semi-final defeat.

Rogers returned from the United States after featuring for England at the World Cup to undergo a medical and sign a six-year contract. The move followed a rapid negotiation process involving club officials and the co-owner Behdad Eghbali.

The transfer was secured through a strong relationship between Chelsea's co-owner and Aston Villa's owner Nassef Sawiris. Arsenal were offered the chance to match the bid but declined, opting to pursue other targets.
