Ottawa Redblacks select Giordano Vaccaro first overall in 70th CFL draft

The Ottawa Redblacks chose offensive lineman Giordano Vaccaro with the first overall pick in the 70th CFL draft, selecting him from Purdue and the University of Manitoba.

The Ottawa Redblacks selected offensive lineman Giordano Vaccaro with the first overall pick in the 70th CFL draft. Vaccaro previously played at the University of Manitoba and transferred to Purdue.

Vaccaro was named an all-Canadian in 2023 and 2024 and earned top down lineman honours in U Sports football in 2024. He played 22 snaps in a season finale against Indiana, which won the NCAA championship.

The Redblacks secured the first pick after finishing last in the CFL standings with a 4-14 record. They have missed the playoffs in five of the past six seasons. Toronto selected Nicklas Henning third overall.
