Venus Williams participated in the Australian Open women's singles draw at 45 years and 7 months, becoming the oldest player to do so. This surpassed Kimiko Date's previous record set in 2015.

She received a wild-card entry to the tournament, her first appearance in five years. The record was not initially recognised by Williams until it was reported in the press.

Williams faced Olga Danilovic in the first round on John Cain Arena. The match was scheduled as the final match of the day on Sunday.
