Indirect Hamas-Israel talks open in Sharm el-Sheikh

Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel began in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to discuss conditions for releasing remaining hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The talks follow a US-backed 20-point plan proposing an end to hostilities and humanitarian aid delivery.

Indirect talks between Hamas and Israel commenced in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on 6 October 2025. The discussions focus on field conditions for the release of remaining hostages.

A US-backed 20-point peace plan proposes an immediate halt to fighting and the release of 48 hostages. Only 20 of the hostages are believed to be alive.

The plan calls for hundreds of Palestinian detainees to be released in exchange for the hostages. It also provides for full humanitarian aid to enter Gaza upon agreement.
