The Irish government will provide €228m towards cross-border rail improvements between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. This includes €193m for infrastructure on the Londonderry-Belfast-Dublin route.
A further €35m will fund hourly Dublin to Belfast train services, extending them to at least 2030. The investment aims to reduce transfer times between Dublin, Belfast, and Derry to 15-20 minutes.
The funding comes from the final allocation of the Shared Island Fund. Additional contributions will support the Ulster Canal restoration, Lough Neagh water quality, and cricket facilities at Stormont.
