The Israeli military issued an evacuation order for Dahieh, a densely populated suburb of Beirut, Lebanon, which is a stronghold of Hezbollah. The directive instructed residents to save their lives and evacuate their homes immediately.
The order covered a 6-square-mile area on Beirut’s southern edge, encompassing four residential neighborhoods. Residents fled in large numbers using cars, trucks, scooters, and motorcycles, causing severe traffic disruption.
The evacuation followed a surge in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, triggered by the U.S.-Israeli campaign against Iran. The Lebanese government has tasked the army with disarming Hezbollah under a national weapons control decision.
