Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has revealed that her Department is moving forward with plans to establish a Flood Forecasting Service across Northern Ireland.

The proposal was presented by the minister to coincide with the start of Flood Awareness Week, an event running from 12 October until 18 October.

According to the official record, the development of the service remains conditional upon the successful approval of a Business Case.

This initiative aims to provide early warning capabilities for flooding events throughout the region.

The announcement was made by the Northern Ireland Executive on 13 October 2026.

Media enquiries regarding the project can be directed to the Executive Information Service during its operational hours.

The service is available between 1800hrs and 0800hrs Monday through Friday, as well as at weekends and public holidays.

Contact details for the duty press officer are accessible via telephone on 028 9037 8110.
