Nigerian authorities secured the release of 100 children abducted from St Mary’s school in Niger State. The abductees were taken by gunmen in November during a wave of mass kidnappings.

The 100 released children are to be handed over to local government officials in Niger state. Their release was confirmed by a United Nations source and the presidential spokesperson.

About 165 students and staff remain unaccounted for following the abduction. The fate of those still in captivity is unclear, with no official confirmation on how or why the release occurred.
