The UK government will bring forward a substantial package of amendments to its Troubles legacy legislation. The changes are designed to improve the process for victims and families affected by the conflict.
The proposed amendments include a Legacy Commission to investigate Troubles-related killings and a separate information recovery body. A dedicated legacy unit within An Garda Síochána is also part of the new framework.
The government says safeguards for veterans have been broadly welcomed but need strengthening through legislation. The bill will now return to Parliament early in the next session for further scrutiny.
