John Ware has appeared before the Omagh bombing inquiry to testify about intelligence received regarding the attack.
The journalist stated that a warning call was delivered on 14 August 1998 at Finner Camp near Ballyshannon in County Donegal.
Ware confirmed he spoke from a pool of confidential sources, including senior officers within the Royal Ulster Constabulary and the Republic of Ireland's security services.
He explained that the information regarding the call was provided to him by counsel for the inquiry ahead of his scheduled testimony.
Despite this intelligence being made available, operational plans to prevent the disaster were not implemented in time.
Ware noted that while he believes the warning was intended for the Irish army, the specific chain of events leading to the failure remains under review.
His evidence adds a new dimension to the ongoing investigation into how the tragedy unfolded.
The inquiry continues to examine all aspects of the intelligence gathering process surrounding the event.
