A teenage boy, Yosef Eisenthal, 14, was killed and three others were injured when a city bus drove into a group of Haredi protesters in Jerusalem’s Romema neighborhood on 6 January 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. at the intersection of Shamgar Street and Ohel Yehoshua Street during a demonstration against conscription, which had been organised by ultra-Orthodox rabbis.
The bus, operated by Extra, was reported to have struck three protesters on Shamgar Street before continuing for several hundred meters and hitting another pedestrian. The driver was detained at the scene and stated to police that he had been attacked by rioters who blocked the road, preventing him from moving. Emergency responders attempted to extract the victim from under the bus on Ohel Yehoshua Street, where he was pronounced dead.
Protesters had set fires on Yirmiyahu Street and blocked traffic, with video showing the bus passing through a burning intersection. Police reported that the crowd had thrown objects and eggs at officers, set fire to bins, and attacked journalists. The Israel Police confirmed that the investigation into the incident was ongoing, and that the driver’s account of being assaulted prior to the collision was under review.
