Work is currently underway to install permanent traffic management measures at Ebrington, marking a shift from temporary controls to a structured operational framework.

The Northern Ireland Executive commissioned an independent review in 2025, tasked with examining how vehicles move through the site and how parking is managed for visitors, tenants and event attendees.

An expert appointed by the Strategic Investment Board conducted on-site observations and risk assessments alongside discussions with stakeholders to evaluate existing conditions.

The assessment concluded that relying solely on signage and informal restrictions was inadequate for ensuring safety and efficient operations at this key destination.

A detailed report highlighted recurring problems linked to unmanaged vehicle entry and free parking availability within the area.

To address these issues, the proposed solution incorporates Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology alongside physical access control infrastructure including barriers and bollards.

The plan also introduces dedicated enforcement resources and a digital payment system designed to align with city-centre parking rates.

Officials state the new arrangements aim to enhance accessibility for people with disabilities while supporting business, tourism and community activities.

Implementation will proceed on a phased basis to minimise disruption, with the site remaining open throughout the construction period.

The full programme of improvements is scheduled for completion by the end of the current financial year.

Further details regarding the rollout will be shared with stakeholders as the project advances.
