Resident doctors in Northern Ireland began a 24-hour strike at 07:00 BST on 29 June 2026. The action forms part of a broader dispute over pay and staffing levels in the NHS.
The BMA reported that 92% of resident doctors voted in favour of strike action. A 3.5% pay uplift from the DDRB was rejected as insufficient to address over 18 years of pay erosion.
Picket lines were held at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Craigavon Area Hospital, and Altnagelvin Hospital. Doctors cited unsafe staffing levels and staff departures due to poor pay as contributing to the crisis.
