The Taliban has enforced a nationwide internet blackout in Afghanistan, cutting fiber-optic services across the country. This action reduces connectivity to approximately 14% of normal levels, according to monitoring group NetBlocks.

The blackout began on 29 September 2025, with reports of near-total telecoms disruption. Local media and advocacy groups confirmed the collapse of internet access, particularly in eastern and southern provinces.

No official confirmation of the shutdown was issued by the Taliban government. The Associated Press was unable to contact its Kabul bureau or journalists in Nangarhar and Helmand provinces.
