Two individuals have died in connection with an outbreak of invasive meningitis at the University of Kent in Canterbury. One of the deceased was a student at the university, both believed to be aged between 18 and 21.
Eleven people from the Canterbury area are hospitalized in serious condition, most of whom are aged between 18 and 21 and include university students. The UK Health Security Agency is arranging antibiotics for some students in the area as a precaution.
The outbreak is thought to be linked to a social event in Canterbury attended by some of those who fell ill. The UKHSA is conducting interviews to identify close contacts and is contacting over 30,000 students, staff, and families.
