The U.S. military had launched additional strikes against multiple targets in Iran at 5:15 p.m. ET, according to U.S. Central Command, in response to Iran’s continued aggression. These strikes followed earlier attacks by Iran on U.S. military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait, including the Ali Al-Salem and Ahmad Al-Jaber air bases.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for attacks on two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, stating the strikes were carried out in accordance with a prior order to close the strait. The U.S. military confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz remained open for commercial shipping despite the claims.
U.S. forces had previously used 49 Tomahawk missiles to strike targets in Iran, some located as close as 40 miles from Tehran. Fighter jets were also deployed to destroy radar and air defense systems in the southwestern region of Iran.
