The UK recorded its highest annual average temperature in 2025 at 10.09°C, exceeding the 2022 record of 10.03°C. This marked only the second year since 1884 that the annual mean temperature surpassed 10°C.
Four of the past five years now rank among the top five warmest since 1884, according to the Met Office. The data indicates a rapid shift in the UK’s climate, with all top-10 warmest years occurring in the past two decades.
The Met Office attributed the rise to persistent high-pressure systems and unusually warm sea temperatures. Climate attribution experts noted that human-induced global warming is affecting the UK’s weather patterns.
