The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices votes to end its formal recommendation for the COVID-19 vaccine. The change reflects a shift from universal guidance to individual decision-making based on personal risk assessment.

Vaccines will still be available to anyone aged six months or older who chooses to receive them. Coverage remains in place through public and private insurance, including Medicaid, Medicare, and marketplace plans.

The committee notes that benefits are highest for people with underlying health conditions or over age 65. It also states that the most effective use of vaccines lies in targeting those at greatest risk of severe illness.
