President Donald Trump has raised the US global tariff rate from 10% to 15% under emergency powers. The measure is permitted for up to 150 days and applies broadly across import categories.
Exemptions remain for goods entering under the US-Mexico-Canada agreement and for sectors under separate government investigations. The White House confirmed that pharma and other sectors under review are not subject to the new rate.
The change follows a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated earlier country-specific tariffs under a 1977 law. The court did not rule on sector-specific duties for steel, aluminum, or other goods already targeted.
