Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have announced plans to provide financial support to three Gaelic football clubs in Derry following their purchase of Strancally Castle.

Each organisation will receive a grant of €50,000, equivalent to £42,000, with payments scheduled to occur over the course of two years.

This marks the first philanthropic contribution from the couple to Irish sporting bodies since acquiring the property in August.

The primary objective for Zuckerberg is to channel resources into developing underage teams within each club.

Subsequent investment phases will focus on adult squads and coaching structures before addressing community facilities.

Specific projects identified include the installation of floodlights, new fencing along pitch sides and the construction of a dedicated community walkway.

The walkway initiative aims to enhance accessibility for local residents.
