Arnold Schwarzenegger was awarded an honorary degree by Ulster University in Belfast on 30 March 2026. The recognition acknowledged his contributions to public service, environmental advocacy and the arts.
Schwarzenegger's first visit to Belfast occurred in 1966 during a bodybuilding competition. He recalled being invited to speak publicly for the first time while unable to speak English, resulting in a standing ovation.
The university event included a performance by a group of musicians and dancers, including harpist Ursula Burns. Students expressed surprise and admiration, with some describing the visit as transformative.
