The Asian Football Confederation confirms Iran remains set to play in the World Cup despite U.S. President Donald Trump's comments on player safety. Iran's football federation has informed the AFC it will attend the tournament.

Trump previously stated he did not care if Iran played, later suggesting their safety could be at risk. Iran's national team responded via social media that no one can exclude them from the global event.

Iran's foreign ministry demanded FIFA address concerns about the host nation's ability to ensure security. The team is scheduled to play in the U.S., facing New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt in June.
