Trump signs bill ending record Homeland Security shutdown

The U.S. president signed legislation funding most of the Department of Homeland Security, ending the longest agency shutdown in history, after a deadlock over immigration enforcement funding.

President Donald Trump signed bipartisan legislation funding most of the Department of Homeland Security on 30 April 2026. The measure ended the longest agency shutdown in U.S. history, which began on 14 February.

The bill provided funding for TSA, Coast Guard, and FEMA operations, which had been operating without routine funds since 14 February. Emergency funds for essential personnel were set to expire, risking further disruptions at airports.

Immigration enforcement agencies including ICE and CBP remained unfunded under the bill, as separate funding was still pending. House Republican leaders had delayed action, but the Senate-passed bill was finally approved.
