Former Everton manager Brian Sorensen is confirmed as an assistant coach in the Republic of Ireland squad preparing for their Women's World Cup play-off qualifiers.

He is expected to link up with the national team during the international break while retaining his role as technical director at Aston Villa women.

The two-legged tie against Kazakhstan, scheduled for 9 and 13 October, marks the first round of qualifying matches.

Sorensen will serve under manager Carla Ward, who previously managed Aston Villa when she faced Everton in the Women's Super League.

He is set to work alongside Liverpool's Amber Whiteley within the coaching structure.

Reports indicate his appointment aims to strengthen the technical preparation for the upcoming campaign.
