Two goals in four first-half minutes carried Carrick Rangers to a 2-1 NIFL Premiership victory over Limavady United.

Paul Heatley broke the deadlock in the 37th minute before Aidan Steele doubled Carrick's lead in the 41st, turning a goalless contest firmly in the visitors' favour before the interval.

Limavady responded after the restart. Alfie Gaston pulled one back in the 53rd minute, bringing the home side to within a goal with much of the second half still to play.

Carrick made changes as the match entered its final half-hour, including the introduction of Joe Crowe and Ronan Wilson, and the visitors came through the remaining minutes with their 2-1 advantage intact.

The occasion marked Limavady's first home Premiership fixture since returning to the top flight, but Carrick took the points and followed their opening 1-0 win over Portadown with a second successive victory.
