The Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL) has revoked Cliftonville's Women's League Cup trophy after determining that two players on the squad were not eligible to compete in the championship decider.

This ruling effectively ends the north Belfast club's ambition of securing a domestic treble, having already won the league title by nine points ahead of their rivals.

Glentoran, who lost the match 4-0 at Seaview in July, have been officially recognised as the winners following their complaint lodged with the governing body.

The club from Strabane will be presented with the cup and recorded as having won the competition by a scoreline of 3-0.

Cliftonville had secured the league championship earlier in the season before the final match took place at Windsor Park on 24 October.

The dispute arose after Glentoran challenged the composition of the Cliftonville team during the Women's Irish Cup final.

An independent review conducted by the NIFL concluded that the eligibility rules had been breached regarding the two individuals listed in the match sheet.

Consequently, the league has confirmed that the title belongs to Glentoran and will be awarded accordingly.
