Cliftonville face Glentoran in Women's Challenge Cup final after League Cup result overturned

Cliftonville will face Glentoran in the Women's Challenge Cup final this Saturday as the two clubs meet for the first time since July.

The Reds were stripped of their League Cup triumph after it was ruled that they fielded two ineligible players during the decisive match against Glentoran last month.

Caitlin McGuinness scored twice and Kirsty McGuinness and Danielle Maxwell also netted in a 4-0 win on the day, but that has now been reversed to a 3-0 victory to Glentoran.

The decision regarding ineligible players was made by the relevant governing body following an investigation into the squad composition for the July contest.

Glentoran have not yet confirmed their final squad list for Saturday's encounter at City of Derry Airport.

Both clubs are preparing for a high-stakes showdown that will determine who advances to the next round of the competition.

Fans in both Derry and Belfast are expected to travel to the venue to support their respective teams ahead of the fixture.
