DAERA Minister Andrew Muir has called upon landowners considering participation in the Forest Expansion Scheme to finalise their submissions immediately.

The official deadline for receiving applications is set for 3pm on 19 October.

Under this programme, eligible participants may establish new native woodlands measuring three hectares or more.

Successful applicants are entitled to funding covering up to 100% of the costs associated with woodland establishment.

In addition to capital grants, recipients can access annual premium payments of £469 per hectare for a ten-year period.

The scheme accommodates a broad spectrum of woodland types and supports projects involving land areas of at least 0.2 hectares.

A distinct initiative known as the Small Woodland Grant Scheme will also be available to assist with sustainable management and creation of native woodland.

Applications for the Small Woodland Grant Scheme are scheduled to reopen in late November.
