The Department of Health published figures detailing funding allocated to general practice services throughout Northern Ireland from 2021-22 through to 2025-26.
This publication marks the seventh occasion that such financial data has been released by the department regarding drug reimbursement and clinical service costs.
For the current financial year ending 2025-26, the total investment amounting to £435.055m was distributed across general practice networks.
When compared against the 2024-25 period, this figure represents a growth of 5.55% in overall funding levels for GP practices within the region.
Contractual modifications implemented across different UK nations over recent years have rendered historical datasets difficult to compare directly.
In alignment with recommendations from the Review Body on Doctors' and Dentists' Remuneration, a 4.0% uplift was granted for general practitioner salaries in 2025-26.
Additional financial adjustments included a 4.0% increase for practice staff expenses and a 4.1% uplift for other operational costs.
These combined measures contributed to an investment value of £11.717m specifically designated for these adjustments.
NHS Digital, which previously compiled country-level statistics from all four UK nations, legally merged with NHS England on 1 February 2023.
Consequently, the unified UK reporting series has been discontinued and replaced by separate national publications.
The Northern Ireland Executive issued this document today to provide transparency regarding current resource allocation.
