Play at the DP World India Championship in New Delhi came to an abrupt halt on Thursday evening as fading light prevented further competition during the second round.

Rory McIlroy, who began his day with a strong performance including an eagle and three pars, was among those whose rounds were terminated early.

The tournament's fourth hole marked the point where play ceased, leaving McIlroy tied for 17th place on four-under par with four shots behind the leaders.

England's Tommy Fleetwood and Scotland's Robert MacIntyre also finished their rounds at the same stage, joining McIlroy in the group of players unable to complete the course.

Joost Luiten from the Netherlands, Angel Hidalgo from Spain, and Adrian Meronk from Poland all completed their 18 holes to lead the field on eight-under par.

Belgium's Thomas Detry is also tied at the top but had his round cut short after only seven holes due to the same conditions.

Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin started the day one shot off the lead but fell to three back on five-under par after completing seven holes before play stopped.

The second round was previously suspended for five hours during Thursday's opening round following heavy rain and thunderstorms.

England's Eddie Pepperell and Todd Clements are both one shot off the four-way tie for the lead as they completed their 18 holes in New Delhi.

E J Rose from England also finished his round on five-under par, while E Ferguson from Scotland recorded a score of five stars before the suspension.

The second round is scheduled to resume at 02:45 BST on Saturday morning.
